How to play poker games
How to play Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold'em can be played with a maximum of 10 players and a minimum
of 2 players. You use a standard fifty-two card deck, after the deck is
shuffled the dealer will deal 2 cards to each player, this is commonly known as hole
cards. Usually each new hand is begun by two players placing a small
blind and big blind. Usually there is a disc placed in front of
the player that is going to be the last person to act in each round of betting
called the dealer button, the blinds are placed from the two players to
the left of the person holding the dealer button. The dealer button is rotated
to the left after a hand is completed and continues to rotate around the table.
After each player is dealt there hole cards a round of betting commences
starting at the player immediatly to the left of the big blind. Each
player must make a decision to call the big blind, raise most
times a minimum of big blind (e.g. if the big blind is $1 the minimum you can
raise to is $2) or more, or fold their hand. Players folding their
hand are no longer involved. The player in the big blind has an option, if no
one has raised to pot before him he may chose to raise or check
to see the flop.
After the 1st round of betting is completed 3 community cards are shown
face up in the middle of the table called the flop. Another round of
betting takes place the 1st person to act in this round is the player still in
the hand the is furthest to the left of the dealer button. in this round a
player has the option to check to the next player, call a bet if
one has already been made, raise a bet that has already been made, or fold
to a bet already made.
After the flop the dealer turns 1 card face up called the turn or 4th
street. Again a round of betting occurs, with all the players who are
still in the hand, just like the flop.
Finally after the turn the dealer turns up 1 last card the river
or 5th street. Again a round of betting occurs just like the flop and
turn. After all betting has taken place the players still in the hand will
flip over there cards to reveal the best 5 card hand using the 5 community and
2 hole cards (Remember that you don't have to use both hole cards to make your
hand, you can use 4 from the community and 1 of your hole cards, or use all 5
community cards if needed) is the winner.
Also there are different variations to the betting patterns of hold'em
read below to learn more about them
No Limit
A player can bet any amount from the minimum raise to the amount of
chips that they have in front of them at the time.
Pot Limit
In pot limit a player can bet any amount from the minimum to the
size of the pot. Say the blinds in a pot limit game are $1/$2. A player
wanting to raise can raise to a maximum of $5 because of the $1 small blind +
$2 big blind + $2 call by the player raising.
Limit
In limit each round has a fix betting sturcture. if the game is a
$2/$4 game then the blinds are $1/$2 and the raises are in increments of $2
before and on the flop and $4 on the turn and river. Normally theres
is a maximum of 3 reraises allowed per round.
Tournament
Tournaments can be held in either of the three betting variations.
Usually there is a fixed buy in to them and blind normally increase in timed
intervals, usually in the later rounds antes, which is a fixed amount
placed into the pot by each player, are implemented. The winner of the
tournament is the person with all the chips in play at the end.
Another important thing about tournamens is the format wether it be a re-buy
where you can buy back in if you lose all your chips or freeze-out where
you are eliminated once you lose all your chips. Some Tournaments also
include add-ons which will get you a fixed amount of chips if you
decide to purchase them.
