How to play Omaha High



Omaha High can be played with a maximum of 8 players and a minimum of 2
players. You use a standard fifty-two card deck, after the deck is shuffled
the dealer will deal 4 cards to each player, this is commonly known as hole
cards. Usually each new hand is begun by two players placing a small blind and
big blind. Usually there is a disc placed in front of the player that is going
to be the last person to act in each round of betting called the dealer
button, the blinds are placed from the two players to the left of the person
holding the dealer button. The dealer button is rotated to the left after a
hand is completed and continues to rotate around the table. After each player
is dealt there hole cards a round of betting commences starting at the player
immediatly to the left of the big blind. Each player must make a decision to
call the big blind, raise most times a minimum of big blind (e.g. if the big
blind is $1 the minimum you can raise to is $2) or more, or fold their hand.
Players folding their hand are no longer involved. The player in the big blind
has an option, if no one has raised to pot before him he may chose to raise or
check to see the flop.



After the 1st round of betting is completed 3 community cards are shown
face up in the middle of the table called the flop. Another round of betting
takes place the 1st person to act in this round is the player still in the
hand the is furthest to the left of the dealer button. in this round a player
has the option to check to the next player, call a bet if one has already been
made, raise a bet that has already been made, or fold to a bet already made.



After the flop the dealer turns 1 card face up called the turn or 4th
street. Again a round of betting occurs, with all the players who are still in
the hand, just like the flop.



Finally after the turn the dealer turns up 1 last card the river or 5th
street. Again a round of betting occurs just like the flop and turn. After all
betting has taken place the players still in the hand will flip over there
cards to reveal the best 5 card hand using the 3 of the 5 community cards and
2 or the 4 hole cards is the winner. An important rule to Omaha that is unlike
hold'em, in Omaha you must use 2 of the 4 cards in your hand. Also Omaha can
be played in different variations as well wether it be pot limit, limit or no
limit.
