How to play 5 Card Draw

5 Card Draw can be played with a maximum of 6 players and a minimum of 2
players. You use a standard fifty-two card deck, after the deck is shuffled
the dealer will deal 5 cards to each player, Usually each new hand is begun by
two players placing a small blind and big blind. Usually
there is a disc placed in front of the player that is going to be the last
person to act in each round of betting called the dealer button, the
blinds are placed from the two players to the left of the person holding the
dealer button. The dealer button is rotated to the left after a hand is
completed and continues to rotate around the table.

5 card Draw can be played with various betting variations like Limit, No
Limit, or Pot Limit.

After each player is dealt there cards a round of betting commences
starting at the player immediatly to the left of the big blind. Each
player must make a decision to call the big blind, raise most
times a minimum of big blind (e.g. if the big blind is $1 the minimum you can
raise to is $2) or more, or fold their hand. Players folding their
hand are no longer involved. The player in the big blind has an option, if no
one has raised to pot before him he may chose to raise or check
to see the flop.

After the 1st round of betting is completed Each person must decide how
much cards they would like to change in their hand. Usually this starts from
the player nearest the left of the dealer button, who is still in the hand.
There are different rules to this so if you are playing in a home game make
sure everyone knows the standard. You can either decide to let everyone change
or draw up to 5 new cards or draw up to 3 cards after the initial round of
betting. If you go with a maximum of 3 cards some places also let a player
draw 4 cards, if they are holding an ace and expose it to the rest of the
players.

After all players have drawn their cards a new round of betting occurs
and the players still in the hand show their cards and the best 5 card hand is
the winner of the pot.

Other Variations of this game

Sometimes players will allow wild cards (e.g. a
player can use the selected card to whatever suit or rank they desire). The
wild cards is usually specified before play commences. If you use wild cards a
5 of a kind is possible and is designated the best hand possible.

Another variation of the game states that in order for a player to open
a bet they must a pair of jacks or better. If no one has jacks or better then
the hand is considered a misdeal and a new hand is dealt.

Also you could allow for 2 draws, so the game would be modified and have
another drawing of cards and round of betting after the 1st draw.

No Limit

A player can bet any amount from the minimum raise to the amount of
chips that they have in front of them at the time.

Pot Limit

In pot limit a player can bet any amount from the minimum to the
size of the pot. Say the blinds in a pot limit game are $1/$2. A player
wanting to raise can raise to a maximum of $5 because of the $1 small blind +
$2 big blind + $2 call by the player raising.

Limit

In limit each round has a fix betting sturcture. if the game is a
$2/$4 game then the blinds are $1/$2 and the raises are in increments of $2
before the draw and $4 after the draw. Normally theres is a maximum of 3
reraises allowed per round.
