First of all, you need the basics. Two good sets of cards (preferably plastic)
and a good set of chips (look for clay or clay composite weighing 11 grams or
more). Tthe more players you expect to have at your game, the more chips
you'll need. If you're not sure what you're looking for, you can find a number
of pre-packaged, multicolor chip sets in most retail stores ranging in size
from 300 chips to 500 chips. A timer is also important to keep track of blind
levels.
If you want to give your game a authentic feel, you can
also purchase a poker tabletop that fits over almost any kitchen or dining
table.
First you'll need to determine chip value usually
red-5, white-10, green -25, black-100. and the amount of chips each person has
anywhere from a $1000 to $2000 is fair.
Now it's time to structure your tournament. Start by
determining the blind sturucture and the time at each blind level. Usually
somewhere between 5 to 12 minutes a level is fine. Also you want to start the
blinds relatively low depending on the amount of chips you want to give each
player. If you give everyone a $1000 in chips the blinds should start off at
15 and 30 or smaller. The blinds then go up incrementally depending on how
fast you want the tournament to last, normally I like a strucutre to go from
(15/30 to 20/40 to 25/50 to 30/60 etc) each increment is called a level and it
is up to you how fast you want to increase the blinds.
Finally get started and have fun !!!
