Poker Etiquette
So now you know how to play the various games and have got enough skills
playing with your friends in your regular home game or online. Now you want
to give the poker room at a local casino or in Vegas or Altantic City. Here
are a few things you should know about the normal etiquette in a poker room or
even for your home game.
1. Pay Attention
Know where the action is and how much each bet is, besides
watching what other people are doing to pick up tells its important to know
how much some one has raised and how soon it will be for your turn to act is.
This will make the game go faster and you won't look silly asking the dealer
if its your turn or how much the raise was.
2. Act in Turn
Only act in turn, Do not fold your hand or bet out of turn as
this will influence the actions of other players acting before you. A good
habit to practice is to only look at your cards when it is your turn to act,
so you do not predetermine your action in that hand.
3. Don't be a commentator while a hand is being played.
If you fold your hand, or there a multiple people involved in a
hand don't talk about the actions of the other players hands while it is still
being played. This may influence other player decisions and is frowned upon
is card rooms. You should also not gesture if the flop may have gave you a
big hand as this will also influence other people decisions.
4. Only 1 player to a hand
You should not ask for advice from other players during a hand.
And you should not offer advice to other players still in the hand.
5. Tip the dealer
If you win a pot you should always tip the dealer, the amout
should vary based on the size of the pot.
6. You are allowed to muck your hand.
If you call a bet and the winner has you beat, you do not have to
show your hand, you may throw it face down into the muck. However if you
throw the winning hand into the muck before it is shown, you will lose the
pot. Also the general rule in tornaments is show one show all so if you show
one person a hand before its mucked, any player at the table can request to
see the hand shown.
